First Visit

Children should have their first orthodontic evaluation by age seven according to the American Association of Orthodontists.

Your dentist may recommend an even earlier visit if certain problems are evident. There is never a cost associated with the initial visit to your orthodontist in Melbourne. Many times, we see problems developing but it would be more efficient to wait until later to correct them. We commonly watch patients for years before delivering any treatment, periodically checking to make sure no damage is occurring while we wait. There is never a charge to examine and monitor growth and development.

We try to make the initial appointment as informative as possible, showing you what an ideal bite looks like and explaining the differences and similarities between your mouth or your child’s mouth and the ideal. Not everyone needs braces, and you will leave knowing just how significant (or insignificant) the problems are. If treatment is indicated, we will be able to give you an idea of what type of treatment is recommended, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. We would also be available to answer any questions you may have.

If treatment is recommended, the office manager at your orthodontist in Melbourne will a give you some valuable information about payment options and insurance coverage to help with your decision making. Second opinions are always welcomed.
