The Art of Your Smile

When you want to improve your smile or the smile of your child or teenager, you can count on your orthodontist in Melbourne, FL to create the perfect smile makeover. We offer early treatment for children who do not yet have all their adult teeth and orthodontic treatments for teenagers and adults who wish to improve the appearance of their smiles and the health of their mouths.

How Our Orthodontist Designs the Perfect Smile
Having straight, properly spaced teeth is essential for proper chewing, speaking and cleaning your teeth. Our orthodontist can help improve your smile with an initial consultation and assessment of your teeth and jaw alignment. Once he has a complete understanding of your tooth and jaw alignment problems, a custom smile plan will be created for you.

Early Orthodontic Treatment for Children
Early treatment can help ensure that your child has a straight smile as their mouths grow and develop. Children usually start getting their permanent teeth between the ages of 6 and 7. As the permanent teeth start to emerge, it’s important to visit our orthodontist in Melbourne for an early treatment checkup. This checkup is designed to evaluate your child’s emerged permanent teeth and look at the permanent teeth that are still above the gumline. If any problems are found, like potentially crooked, twisted or gapped teeth, our orthodontist can create a treatment plan to help correct these issues so that your child can grow up with straight teeth and a beautiful smile.

Initial Consultation
For older children, teenagers and adults, getting a great smile starts with an initial consultation. During this appointment, our orthodontist will ask you questions related to your smile, including if you are having any problems chewing or speaking and if you accidentally bite your lips and cheeks a lot while eating. Next, our orthodontist will perform an in-depth examination of your facial profile, teeth and jaw.

Teeth and Jaw Assessment
In order to determine the correct treatment plan, x-rays will be taken of your teeth and jaw to determine if your jaw is properly aligned, the severity of the spacing problems in your mouth and if you have any bite problems, like an overbite, underbite or crossbite, that could be affecting your facial appearance and your ability to chew food and clean your teeth.

Custom Smile Plan
Once we have all the needed diagnostic information, our orthodontist will create a custom smile plan to correct your crooked and/or crowded teeth and any jaw and teeth alignment problems. Your exact treatment plan will depend on the severity of the problems and your smile goals. For severe jaw problems that affect the facial profile, we may recommend orthognathic surgery in order to achieve the best possible results.

Orthodontic Appliances
Orthodontic appliances are extremely beneficial for correcting underbites and overbites and widening the upper jaw when utilized early. Some of the orthodontic appliances we use include lower lingual arches, expanders for the upper jaw, the distal jet and reverse pull headgear.

Braces and Clear Aligners
Braces and clear aligners are effective at treating crooked and improperly gapped teeth. For children and teenagers that have severely crooked and gapped teeth, metal or clear braces are often the best option. For teenagers and adults with less severe tooth alignment problems, clear aligners may offer the best possible treatment option.

Straight Teeth Maintenance
Once your treatments are completed, our orthodontist will have a retainer created for you. Retainers help hold your teeth in their new positions while your jaw, gums and other soft tissues of your mouth stabilize and reform around your newly moved teeth. Most retainers are worn at night in order to prevent the teeth from shifting back into their original positions. However, you may need to wear it more often for the first six months or so. Our orthodontist will help create the ideal wear schedule for your new retainer.
